Dragon Academy: Biology Adventure RPG — Semester 2

The Evolution Chronicles | A Live Online D&D Curriculum for Grades 6–8

🐉 The Campaign Continues

The Corruption survived.

In Semester 1, your team mapped the living cell, restored the ecosystems, and survived the final boss battle at the Living Kingdom Throne Room. You stopped the first wave — but you didn’t stop the source.

Now the Corruption has gone deeper. It’s rewriting the genetic code. It’s erasing the fossil record. It’s dismantling the very systems that make humans alive. And it’s using evolution itself as a weapon — accelerating mutations, collapsing species, and reshaping life on Earth faster than nature intended.

Professor Magnifica has one mission for her most experienced biologists: trace the Corruption back to its origin. That means cracking open the Code Vaults, surviving the Evolution Forge, battling through the Mind Labyrinth, and facing the year-end Final Throne in the most epic session of the campaign.

This is The Evolution Chronicles — and the science gets deep.

🗺️ How It Works

Each week follows the same three-step structure — built so students arrive to every live session ready to play:

Step 1 — Watch A short pre-recorded video covers the week’s biology content. Students watch on their own schedule before the live session. This is the lecture — clear, focused, and tied directly to that week’s RPG mission.

Step 2 — Worksheet A D&D-style worksheet lets students work through the concepts through drawing, labeling, and problem-solving — all framed inside the campaign story. Completed before the live session.

Step 3 — Live Adventure (110 min)

  • 15 min — Warmup & review: quick-fire questions, vocabulary challenges, recap of the week’s content
  • 80 min — RPG adventure: students apply what they learned to solve real in-game problems as a team. The adventure IS the assessment.
  • 15 min — DM Challenge: a curveball problem that pushes deeper thinking, earns bonus HP, and previews next week’s quest

🎯 What Students Will Learn

By the end of Semester 2, students will be able to:

  • Describe the structure of DNA and explain how genes code for traits
  • Use Punnett squares to predict the outcomes of genetic crosses
  • Explain incomplete dominance, codominance, and sex-linked inheritance
  • Identify types of mutations and explain how they affect genetic variation
  • Describe how CRISPR, GMOs, and selective breeding use genetic principles
  • Interpret the fossil record as evidence for evolution over geologic time
  • Explain how homologous structures and molecular evidence support common ancestry
  • Describe how natural selection drives population-level change over time
  • Distinguish between natural selection, artificial selection, and speciation
  • Explain how neurons, senses, and the brain process information
  • Describe how the immune system defends against pathogens
  • Analyze human impact on ecosystems and argue for evidence-based conservation solutions

👨‍👩‍👧 For Parents

Why D&D for biology? The RPG format isn’t a gimmick — it’s the assessment. Students can’t decode the genetic mutation without understanding Punnett squares. They can’t stop the Corruption’s evolution without knowing how natural selection actually works. Every quest is designed so the only way to win is to know the science.

Is this rigorous? Yes. Every week maps directly to NGSS middle school life science standards. Semester 2 covers heredity, evolution, and human body systems — exactly what students need for 7th and 8th grade science and high school biology prep.

Does my student need to know D&D? No experience needed. The DM explains the rules as part of the first session, and the game is designed to be picked up quickly. The focus is always on the science — the adventure just makes it unforgettable.

What do I need? A computer or tablet with video and audio. Dragon Academy handles everything else.
